My name is Austin Esmie. I am a 22-year-old student at the University of the West Indies and my major is Literatures in English. My stage name is J. Savage (pronounced J. Sa-vawge) or J. Sav, for short. Music and acting are my first loves and I see myself making a living from that. However, I get asked all the time, "Why do you do music?'' I could give a cookie-cutter response and say that music is the art or that it is poetry/poetic or a way of life.

But for me personally, music is healing. Music can heal what time takes too long to fix and it feeds the soul and that is why I do it. Music saves. I make music for people who feel happy, sad, angry, depressed, lonely, or even if they feel erotic. But Simply put, I do music because my end goal is to make my listeners feel good when they get to the end of one of my songs. The world is already a cold, mean, and crappy place, music makes it just a little more livable and a little more bearable.
